Clubs & Activities - Lakewood High School (2024)

Lakewood High School (LHS) is the largest high school in Jeffco and as such offers more than 50 clubs and activities in which students can get involved.

The benefits of joining an extra- and co-curricular activity are myriad. According to the National Federation of State High Schools Association, students who participate in activities have higher grade point averages, better attendance records, lower dropout rates and fewer disciplinary problems. The association also says participation in activities is a predictor of success later in life.

Mock Trial

Do you enjoy debating? Do you enjoy working with a team? Are you interested in the law or being a lawyer? If so, Mock Trial is the activity for you! Mock Trial gives students the opportunity to participate in a competitive legal drama (sponsored by the Colorado Bar Association). Lawyers and witnesses prepare a case for formal competition, where teams from different schools put on a trial, held in real courtrooms.

Students serve as both attorneys and witnesses. With the help of teachers and coaches, Mock Trial competitors develop trial strategy, determine what questions to ask the witnesses, and deliver opening statements and closing arguments. Instead of a jury, a scoring panel awards points and at the end of the trial, the team with the most points wins. High school mock trial helps students to develop public speaking, teamwork and critical-thinking skills in a fun and challenging environment.
